Cam question...

Hey everybody,

I'm able to get my hands on a cam CHEAP, and was just wondering if anyone knows whether an FRPP F303 has valve-to-piston clearance issues, or will it work without piston mods? Just know that I would check clearance anyhow, but if it's a choice that would require mods, then I will take another route. Additional info to take into consideration is that I will be using GT40 heads and a stock 5.0L rotating assembly (for now, but will eventually be poking it out to 331). Thanks

that cam is a good cam , nice rumble to a stock motor , but it all depends on what you are or have done to the motor. best thing to do is talk to a reputable motor shop and fire off a few questions. there are alot of guys on here that know their stuff aswell. im sure one will be along soon to give some advice.

...Niiiiice ride TearU!! At present the motor is stock, but will be upgraded with the following: at least 70mm Mass Air Meter (and matching throttle body), cold air intake kit, 24lb/hr injectors, a 331 stroker kit, explorer GT40 heads (with possible milling to bump up CR a touch)and intake, full length headers with x-pipe (minus cats), 3.73 or 4.10 gears (not sure yet since it'll only mostly be an around town cruiser and occasional strip trip), underdrive pulleys and of course aftermarket ignition. I haven't bought most of this stuff yet, so if anyone wants to offer up opinions, bring 'em on. Thanks

Should also add a new 31-spline traction lok, and hardened 31 spline axle shafts to go with it. With the mods you listed stock axles won't handle that kind of power.

thanks Jake...31's are a good suggestion, especially since i've been toying with the idea of a 5-lug upgrade anyhow at some point. Also since the car is a 5 speed, it makes the beefier axles seem like a no-brainer! Now, why didn't I think of that?!

Your-welcome! i'm in the same situation as you; looking through the catalogs at all the sweet new parts, planning what upgrades to do next spring, can't wait!

The E303 fits fine, I ran it in my flat top pistons when I did the HO conversion to my ;88 Cougar. No issues at all.

I personally rather the b303 over any of the letter cams. the e and f are for blowers or turbo. I have an e303 mint for 125.
