fuel pump, pressure regulator or bad gas???

Well I was at the Tim Horton's drive thru....My idle started getting low so I parked it. The car burbled and then died (sounded like I had a nice lopey cam ). I waited a few minutes....revved it car stayed on for a bit then burbled and died....to make a long story short I waited a few minutes between start up and drove to get home... Halfway it felt like it had no gas, rpms dropped and she died...pulled over, waited and then got home.. Now she sits in the garage and idles fine....fuel pump, pressure regulator or bad gas hmmmm?

Secondly being a rookie mechanic, if it is the fuel pump or pressure regulator what's the procedure for replacing it....

Thanks

Fuel filter? Can you check the pressure?

What kind of car/engine?

Fuel filter could be the problem. Another possibility is a dead or flat battery. Twice I have had running problems because of a battery that couldn't hold load. If you dont have access to a battery load tester run the car at idle, crank the heat, turn on your rear defrost. The battery guage should drop but stay where it drops too. If it slowly depletes then you either have a bad battery or a bad alternator.

If you can. Check the fuel Presure on the Fuel Rail.

Changing your Fuel Filter would be a good idea for a cheap safe start

Also, Is your fuel pump making any noise? Good sign that it might be on it's way out. Replaceing the filter and pump are in the Haynes repair guild. If you don't have one. they are a good investment. You can pick one up at Canadian tires and it's a pretty much step by step on how to change your pump and or fuel fitler. and anything else for that matter.

Fuel pump is about 2 hours and you have to drop the tank.
Fuel filter is between the Diff and gas tank. 8mm Socket or standard screw driver. Be carefull with the fuel lines on the gas tank if they haven't been moved befour.

if it ran fine for 15 minutes.. you might be able to rule out the fuel filter.. but it's still a good idea to change it.

good luck.

cheers!
