i'm back..............shifter works? no?

haven't been on the forums in a while!!!!

My stang was a 5-spd T-5 trans 4 cyl. but i am swapping it to a 3-spd C4 trans 351 windsor. i didn't feel like spening $200.00 on a race shifter and i heard that the stockers were decently good. so i went to a junkyard and out of a 1990 mustang lx hatch, 4 cyl......i took out the automatic shifter.

my question is will this shifter work on my C4 tranny? the shifter has 1, 2, 3, and then overdrive. since overdrive is not needed for a C4 tranny (i dont think) will this shifter be a problem?

thanks
-Landon

No it will not work. You need to get one from a '79-'85 Auto car. The OD shifter will make your life hell when trying to remember what gear you are in, and dont even try to race with that shifter. The older style has the rod type shifter arm (cable is the newer style) and if you needed you can make it adjustable. Hope this helps. Good luck

when i was at the junk yard i could have gotten a auto shifter out of a 79 or 80 mustang....i dont think it has overdrive....but i kinda thought ...newer the better and dammit.....thanks for your help

so your saying that 2=1, D=2, OD=3. and WTF for park and neutral

how would the order work?

i may just use it because i will have enough money for a B&M racing shifter next year. and i am currently doing the 4 cyl to 351 windsor swap so i will prob only get in like 3 race days with this 10 dollar shifter before winter
