4 vs 2 Barrel Mach 1
Just bought a 69 Mach 1 and it has a totally stock 2 barrel 351,would like some ideas to improve power and Im thinking of a 4barrel carb to start. As ive never owned a classic Ford muscle car just chev and pontiac and they were not classics when I owned them . I would like some ideas from someone with more experiance.

Welcome aboard, and congrats on your latest toy!! Definitely a four barre carb, and aftermarket aluminum intake will help improve, also add a K&N air filter designed for carbs along with the extreme top, which is a filter, and lid at the same time, then do the full exhaust from front to back to 2 1/2.SHould give you thye extra few ponies. There is more, like heads,cams,gears,ects...All depends what you want to spend.Same goes for suspension, there is always room for improvements there. The list could go on LOL!

4 vs 2 Barrel Mach 1
Nice purchase! If I recall correctly, some Mach 1's did have 2 barrel carbs. I agree with 1LOW03GT and SNAKEBITE that an aluminum intake and a 4 barrel carb and some larger exhaust will improve power and gas mileage and reduce weight. The cast iron intake weighs a lot. It makes a great boat anchor! Be careful and size the carb correctly.
A few years ago before I made the right choice to Mustangs, (showing my age now) I made the same changes to a 74 Camaro and the driveability, mileage and performance improvements were dramatic. Of course that year had extreme pollution controls.
Good luck and welcome to the club.

Thanks for the info guys, Im thinking this is the right place for advice. Will receive the car next week as it will need to be shipped across country.Any ideas on specific carb and intake manufactures and models which will work best with a 351?

Edelbrock makes great quality intakes, stick with a dual plane as they work from off idle or close to right to 5500 to 6500 rpm(depending on the one you chose)They have the "Performer 351W",which is better then stock, then there is the "Performer RPM 351W",which is a really nice intake, and could be the better choice once you really start the mods, and then there is the "RPM Air Gap 351W",which is some what similar to the Performer RPM,but slightly different in which it is designed to allow air to flow threw the runners, and under the carb mounting surface, and also raised to keep it away from the hot engine.I've always used the Edelbrock intakes on my carb'd vehicles i toy'd with, and as for carb,a Holley carb is a good, easy to work with, affordable carb. This was the carb i used for the 5.0L i built for my old '85 GT...
Holley Performance Products 650 CFM Four Barrel Street Carburetor*0-80783C
Plenty enough for what you have now,and later it will still be plenty enough as you mod on down the road. Also if you see "Parts & Kits for 0-80783C" on that same page ,you can get what you need to bolt this carb without any hassels.

The 69 Mach I is a true classic.
The 351-2V was not a very strong engine and it was also attached to a set of peg leg gears and single exhaust.
The best bang for the buck is ditching the 2.80 gears and and putting in a set of 3.25 or 3.50 gears. Noticeable seat of the pants feel.
Switching to a 4V carb and dual exhaust is also a lot of fun for the money but you really won't notice enough until you switch to a better cam.
If you switch the cam, 4V carb, headers, dual exhaust and good gears you will have a truly sweet car that will get into the mid 14's in the quarter. This is good because right now you will be mid 16's in the quarter.
