Ford Brings Back the Mustang Boss 302 For 2012
Ford Motor Co. had just yesterday announced the Mustang Boss 302 for 2012. The company stated that the same team of engineers, designers and stylists, who created the innovative 2011 Ford Mustang GT, is also behind this race car with a license plate.
It was in 1969 that the company first introduced the Mustang Boss 302. The company said that this new model used the same principles that were used in the first Mustang Boss. The company also added that the new car gets many of its parts from the 2009 Ford Mustang Boss 302R.
The Boss is powered by an engine designed by its V8 engine team headed by Mike Harrison. The car is powered by a 5.0-liter dual-overhead camshaft V8 engine, tuned to red line at 7,500 rpm and ready to generate 440hp and 380 lb.-ft. of torque. The power is an increase of 28hp over the standard GT.
When it comes to the exterior of 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 , the designers drew inspiration from the original 1969 model. The new car will have either black or white roof panel, C-stripe, closed fog lamp openings and a more aggressive front splitter and rear spoiler. The models are also available in other colors like Competition Orange, Performance White, Kona Blue Metallic, Yellow Blaze Tri-Coat Metallic and Race Red.
The interior of the Boss features steering wheel covered completely in Alcantara suede that complements the standard seats, which are trimmed in cloth with a suede-like center insert to firmly hold occupants in place.
The 2012 Mustang Boss 302 has a unique, lightweight 19-inch black alloy racing wheels in staggered widths: 9 inches in front, 9.5 inches in the rear. The braking system of the new Boss is also worth noting -the company uses Brembo four-piston front calipers that act on 14-inch vented rotors up front. For the rear, the company has upgraded the standard Mustang GT brakes with a Boss-specific high-performance pad compound.
The combined suspension and tire package allows Boss to achieve a top speed of 155 mph and become the first non-SVT Mustang ever to achieve more than 1.0 g of lateral acceleration.
The company also added that to celebrate the racing heritage of the new Mustang Boss 302, it will also offer a limited number of Boss 302 Laguna Seca models. Ford has not revealed the pricing details of the Boss.

Pricing will be key and I would think that in the hp dept 450/475 would sound much better than 440, maybe that's just me mind you. This is no doubt crazy but I always preferred the Boss 302 over the 429 even with the lesser hp and now the price difference between the two at auction.
