Ford Mustang Series Grows With Delivery of FR500S Race Cars

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 10, 2008) - The newest series to be sanctioned by the Grand-Am Road Racing Association has started quickly, and the drivers and cars have yet to compete in their first race.

Nineteen competitors took delivery of Ford Mustang FR500S race cars earlier this month at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele Valley, Utah in preparation for the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge, which is in its inaugural season. Participants are gunning for the Miller Cup, which will be awarded to the series champion.

Competitors earned track time two weeks ago at the 4.486-mile track, which will host the Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 and KONI Challenge Series in September. The Ford Racing Mustang Challenge will complement several Rolex and KONI Challenge events throughout the 2008 season.

The most exciting part of the event - which featured seminars and answered questions, among other activities - came when the cars were delivered to each owner on Saturday, March 1. The drivers jumped into their new FR500S vehicles to participate in open track sessions for the remainder of the day. For those who couldn't get enough of their new Mustang, there were more open track sessions available on Sunday.

The Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup will kick off at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga., on May 3, 2008 for the first of eight races.
Currently, there are also Ford Mustangs competing in Rolex GT and KONI Grand Sport competition.
