For the 2013 model year, Ford surprised many Mustang enthusiasts with a revamped look for their favorite pony car. While the Mustang GT got many of the Shelby GT500’s styling cues, the GT500 itself got very little in the way of aesthetic upgrades. For some people, this is a good thing…but for others, the Shelby GT500 needs to stand out just a bit more than it does.

For those people, Galpin Auto Sports has just the ticket. It is a widebody kit for the 2013+ Shelby GT500, and it really ups the ante when it comes to looks on the GT500.

Widebody kits gained popularity in the racing community, as the wider-bodied cars were able to corner and handle better. As with most trends, like racing stripes and spoilers, widebody kits soon made their way into the mainstream. Yet so far very few people have dared make a widebody kit for the top-of-the-line Mustang, the Shelby GT500.

But Galpin has…and we kind of dig it. This GAS-built Shelby is a full 9-inches wider than stock from front to back, and other aesthetic changes, like the filled-in quarter windows, really add to the “racer” look. Of course any tuning shop worth their wrenches wouldn’t leave the engine of a Shelby untouched, and to that end GAS tuned up the supercharged 5.8 liter V8 engine to make 750 horsepower, versus the 662 horsepower it makes stock.

Widebody kits aren’t for everyone, but we think GAS did right by this GT500. Do you agree?
