Mustang Sales Up 71% As Ford Bounces Back
Of the Detroit 3 Automakers, Ford has been reaping the best rewards of the recovering climate for the automotive business. Boosted by all new products that are good, what people want, and their internal ability to get through the challenges of the past few years, they have seen another great month of sales improvements.
Sales were higher across the board for February, up a staggering 43 percent over last year. And sales were up 22% just over January of this year.
“The strength of our new products and Ford’s leadership in quality, fuel efficiency, safety, smart design and value are resonating with customers,” said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing Sales and Service. “The good news is we have even more new products and fuel-efficient powertrains coming this year, and we expect our progress to continue.”
Ford’s new cars have been the driving factor in their sales improvement, up 54 percent versus a year ago. Sport utility vehicles that were hurt badly when gas prices spiked in 2008 are up 39 percent, and trucks were up 36 percent.
The Ford Mustang sales are up 71.1% in February year over year at 5115 units. And year to date sales are up for Mustang 66.2% with a total of 9862 ponies sold.
Another big shift is Ford’s market share. With other brands hurt badly by image bugaboos such as GM and Chrysler with their bailouts and now Toyota with their recalls, Ford has been picking up new customers across the board. People are coming to Ford vehicles for the first time from many import brands and coming back too. Ford estimates its February U.S. total market share was approximately 17 percent – up 3 percentage points versus a year ago.
