1986 To 1993 need input on purchasing
Here is my dilemna, i'm selling my 99 GT for a older fox but prices vary so much , and i was told 86 is cfi?? and less desirable, the price is 3 k compared to this slightly modded 93 going for 8.5k both cars are mint bodywise but quite a few years apart and both have low kms. I was told i'd have to re harness the 86 for a new computer to put a mass air on it. and i do know the 86 dont have the 8.8 rearend but that is not a problem.
Opinions would be welcome .......
I don't know the pros and cons of each so please feel free to offer advice
Thankyou ,
April

Have any more specific questions? Seems kind of vague...
1986 and newer is EFI
1987 is when the exterior got the redesign, and the E7 heads came on the 5.0
1989 and newer is mass air, before 89 is speed density
1993 5.0's do not have forged pistons, so they don't like supercharging and nitrous as much.

Thank you G Force, actually i'm trying to figure out whether to buy cheaper older one or the 93. I'm not familiar with the old 5.0's as i've had late model 4..6's only. I will have gt 40 heads to put on it, and want to make a street/strip reliable car capable of running into high 12's not on s/c or nitrous, i realize suspension will have to be done but but my pros and cons refer mainly to the motors.Like can the 86 be done as reliably as a 93? that type of thing is what i'm trying to find out.

Thanks Ponyryd , thats the kind of stuff i want to hear about aka the pros and cons. Another guy told me it was a 7.5 rear for the 86 so i'll have to check into that, but even if it were thats not a big problem swapping it out. I've only got 2 weeks to sell my 99 GT before the 93 is gone so who knows which one i'll get . I'd like to fix up the 86 the way i want as opposed to one that is partly done, which is another factor to consider right ?
Lol decisions decisions
thanks for the info :teeth:

86 is probably the best bang for your buck 5.0 you can get. you got the mean looking 4 eyed front end and the really desired interior with the halo headrests. 86 was the first year of the EFI stangs. it only had a few differences motor was from the 87+ stangs, the throttle body is a little smaller and the upper intake has runners that are 2mm smaller, it has the E6 heads instead of the E7s, but I've gone 13.2@102 with them E6s with just a couple bolt-ons (check my webpage). the EEC outta the 86 is tuned a little more aggresive than the DA1 eec out of the 87-88 speed density cars, but a lot of people would still recomend swapping to that eec if you want to stay speed density. 86s were also the first year to get 8.8 rear ends, although they usually came with anemic 2.73 gears (who cares cause they're gonna get swapped anyway). another nice thing about the 86 is it's all forged internals, including the forged flat top pistons. your 93 there will be coming with crappy hypereutectic pistons :toilet:
the tranny in the 93 will have a slightly higher tq rating but hell, i've been putting the serious beats to my stang for years with sticky tires and haven't broken mine. it's all up to you, but for me if i had the choice between an 86 and a 93 it wouldn't even be a choice.
