Does anyone on here Autocross?
If not.. it is something you should try one day! You will see why Tires are so important and why/where an OEM suspension needs attention. You will also learn how to drive/better...and what your Mustang is truely capable of.. incase you decide on running any high speed twisties or canyons.
This might scare you or atleast open your eyes! as the Mustang can be upset and can be unpredicable at just 40mph under load. Offf iiinnnnnn tthhhheee Weeeedddsss. Brakes! good but hello Fade!
This is where the aftermarket plays such a huge role. Where Mustangs are truely transformed from the Stock Mustang to the Weekend Warrior.
Try it once! you will be out again!

You are preaching to the choir here!
Some pics of me flogging my 98 GT through the corners here somewhere:

The advice I give to a new competitor is to check your ego at the gate.
"I drive a musclecar so I will be fast" doesn't apply here. You will get beat, by the oddest machines. Locally, an excellent competitor shows up in an aging Ford Escort.
But it is excellent fun, and cheap! For example, Once you join my local club [$30}, each event is $15.

Plan to do a lot of autocross next season, my suspension is setup nicely for it now - just have to get my Brembo 4 piston brakes up front and i'm ready to go.
We're sponsoring "Mustangs @ Mosport" on June 22, 2005, would be nice for RTM to come out and do some laps with us.

Ego checked in!
Trust me! This is where I really learned how to drive a car!
So much for thinking I could take on WRC after touring my block in a Datsun on summer tires in the snow! HEHE!
Rule the Quarter in my 273 Dodge! with a bucket seat and Cragars!
Or better yet take on F1 and kick *** on the likes of Senna or Stewart with my Autocross Driving skills!
I was a dreamer just like everyone else!
What it takes is practice, patience and determination just like every other sport!
PLUS ! damm hard work and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
The result is the most fun you can have on a working mans budget!
Everyone should start with a Beat up Escort and work up to a Mustang!
I started with a Frickin Nasty Fast Stang on an OEM Suspension! I learned 2 things fast.
I could not drive nearly as good as I thought I could.
Power means nothing unless you can control it and put it to the ground!
(Although its fun in Parking Lots and at Parties cough cough Smokem!)

Autoslalom is the little brother to autosprints and lapping days. The down time while waiting for your run lets you talk to other competitors who are generally willing to share their knowledge, it's all very social And car control it THE critical factor in a good autoslalom run.
A great way to learn and get comfortable.
When you apply that precision along with a heavy right foot on a racetrack for autosprints or lapping days, it brings the whole package together

Senna Rocked! and yes I know he is know longer alive...
I was using this topic as a reference for a starting point as most enthusiasts would have a difficult time Driving a GT1 or P1 car let alone even being competitive on a road coarse in a Focus in a simple Producton class race.
There is more to Racing then just jumping in a Car and Driving. Autocrossing is a great starting point. Then see if you want to pursue getting a novice racing license then into a Senior etc. for Road Racing etc
