Border Duties and Taxes/Cross Border Shipping of Aftermarket parts!

Like a couple others have suggested, if you live anywhere near the border check to see if there is a retailer on the US side that will accept orders on your behalf & have the items shipped there & bring them back across the border yourself. You'll still have to pay the taxes coming back across, but you'll save the shipping & brokerage fees which can amount to a lot of money.

Ok this shipping stuff is my business and we will start with ups yeah you are going to get stung with brokerage fees and collection of hst/gst but it is not ups fault they are not the ones who decides to pay and how much it is done by a third party company under contract. You already are getting a great price out of the us but the us companies should have there own in house brokers and just charge you there rate.I looked into getting a borla exhaust system and would have saved about 800 clams but shipping was going to be about 150 and everything else would have added another 200 so at the end of the day I would still have saved 450 bucks not bad.One thing everybody if you are ordering on a website go right through it and go to international shipping procedures and 9 times out of 10 it will tell you that you could be responsible for all applicable taxes and duties, brokerage so please don't blame the courier he's just doing his job,and he just might own a stang as well.If you are really patient use usps which connects with canada post and a LOT of time they will not collect any charges at all mininum they will collect hst but no brokerage because it is a pain in the *** document wise for everyone involved. The idea about shipping to a holding location then retrieving it yourself is good as well but for us either with (ahem) record or live to far away it is not viable.good luck:banghead

I've got a few things from Steeda.ca since they've started the free shipping in Canada. I find the parts more expensive than the US, but there's no surprises on delivery. I don't know why other Canadian companies don't do the same. It would increase there sales.

I live near the NY border. There is a UPS shop just across the border that holds your packages for $5 per week. You just use their shipping address, track your own package, and when it arrives at the UPS store, go and get it. They are fantastic. Takes me 1.5 hours round trip and voila - save a pile on shipping and brokerage fees each time. They often handle tires and will even handle pallets. I still pay the GST, but you would have to anyway.

There is a rumour going around here that a new company is opening soon here in Canada that will be shipping from east to west side of canada that will be close to matching american prices and the convience of getting it shipped right to your door helps. Remember the US has alot more people and alot of products made there so it is hard for canadian companys to compete. Everyone thinks buying from the US is the best route but not always. I used to drive to the boarder and pick up my parts and bring them back, but once you add up the time and travel and hassle its better to pay more and have no worries.
