Broken sparkplugs

I've been reading alot on breaking sparkplugs when you try to remove them on 2005+ 4.6 engines. I went to the local dealer and the service rep said he had never heard of it. Couldn't find anything here usibg Search. What's up?

thanks

well ive never heard of such a thing but when removing spark plugs but if its not easy to crack then dont loosen them. but if your car is well maintained then there shouldn't be a problem.

Ford TSB is 08-7-6, applies to all of the 3V engines. Basically the plugs are 2 piece construction, and can break off if they are left too long before being changed out because of buildup in the spark plug holes.

What mileage is on your car now? If it's less than 100,000 km, generally you should be OK getting them out.

cheers

I have 69,000 km. The plugs are supposed to be good for 100,000. Should I just pull them out and them put them back in or replace them. The car runs great as is.

thanks

This problem effects all 3V Motors built up to a certain date in 2007, can't remember what date it is exactly though. Yes you can remove the plugs, apply some anti-seize and put them back in, this is what Ford recommended on my F150 but if the plugs are out you might as well replace them.

This is whats up...A very poor design from Ford. This very topic has me biting my nails, I also searched the net and found many broken plug stories.

These are my plugs with approx 20k on an 05 4.6l Vert, very sad... If I had over 50k I would buy the broken plug removal tool.
and have it on the bench ready.
I used deep creep and watched this video.
Watch episode 26(heads are the same for the 4.6L):

Good Luck with the removal, post up your findings.

Ford has been having issues with plugs since the 4.6 2V with plug blow outs, then with the 3V with breaking plugs, wonder if the new 5.0 will have plug issues!
