DaSilva dyno tune update
Just joined.
One of your members suggested i join to share my story here which might save some of you some grief in the future.
Dyno tuned at DaSilva racing July 22, 2005.
Modular Depot mail order tun 254rwhp/295tq
DaSilva custom dyno tune 257rwhp/297tq
Deago(sp) did a test drive and got detonation.
Asked if i was running 94. I said no, i was using 91 because i wanted a 91 tune. He said i should use 94 to cure the detonation and sent me on my way.
Filled up with 94 - detonation still tremendous from 3K up.
I paid DaSilva $172.oo for :
1. a $172 custom dyno detonation tune;
2. to find out DaSilva could not improve on the mail order tune i got from Modular Depot; and
3. to know my car makes 254rwhp/295tq
Props to Modular Depot.
FFWD to last weekend i tried the DaSilva tune i paid $172 for.. only this time i filled with 94 octane and a bottle of octane booster to cure the detonation they sent me home with and told me that more octane would complete the tune.
Only thing that happened during the 3 mins and 10 blocks i drove with the DaSilva tune was coolant totally boiled over all steaming like when my intake blew.. coolant resevoir totally spilled over. Pulled over, let the smoke clear, loaded ModularDepot tune and everything was fine after that.
My car has been stinking of coolant ever since.. the next morning i noticed coolant and air bubbles seeping from between the passenger side head and the engine deck.
10 hour round trip drive.. 172$ for detonation tune.. and now a blown head gasket.
Dealing with DaSilva has been expensive.
This isn't intended to be a bashing thread.
I've made it as factual as possible.
I'm talking the time to post this here to share my story in the hopes i may save some unessary grief to others.

Did you contact DaSilva to see why this happened?
I am curious to see what they say, my brother use to deal with them many years ago but now with computers running most of the car it is a different story.

I did post on the toronto mustang board but was told by management that nobody could say anything that doesn't promote DaSilva.
I did not contact him.
Getting restitution would be more aggrevating and likely disapointing than it could be worth.. considering i live in Ottawa.
The cost of fuel alone would outweigh the benefit of a second chance tune which is highly unlikely.

You'll find similar post on Coral, Stangnet, Mustangworld, MD, Midnightruns and host of others (but not on the GTA board, they promptly deleted it in violation of their "don't say anything bad about DaSilva" policy.
You'll also find posts outlining other experiences and opinions on Mustang ownership like; where to go for good craftsmenship, feedback on the mods i have on the car and mods i haven't bought and the reasons why based on research and many praising shops that have treated me good.
Does everyone get so defensive on negative feedback of Ebay users, parts suppliers or the Ford Mo company?
