Failed emissions AGAIN ... Any help?

Here are the test results:

40 km/h test
HC PPM - Limit 55 - Reading 102 - FAIL
CO% - Limit 0.31 - Reading 0.44 - FAIL
NO PPM - Limit 408 - Reading - 1315 - FAIL
RPM - 1273
Dilution - 1273

Curb Idle test
HC PPM - Limit 200 - Reading 85 - PASS
CO% - Limit 1.0 - Reading 0.10 - PASS
RPM - 671
Dilution - 13.99

Now I don't actually have to Etest again until February 2010, but I'm trying to be proactive and I had a free etest coupon anyway. I was hoping it would be a pass which would have had me clear for another 3 1/2 years, but that unfortunately wasn't the case.

I just had a barely used stainless Bassani catted X pipe installed to replace my older ****ty UPR catted X pipe. When the old pipe came off, we realized that one of the cats was hollow and the other wasn't looking too hot either - which really wasn't surprising. I was hoping that the newer pipe (or newer cats) would FINALLY get me to pass that damn Etest. So my Mufflerman buddy gave me a coupon for a free E-test and I had it done yesterday (4 days after the pipe was installed so the computer had a chance to adjust to the new O2 readings, etc)

The results were a FAIL once again, even with what should be good cats. I haven't had him test the cat's efficiencies yet, but I'm 99% sure they're in good working order.

Basically I'm looking for anyone's informed opinions and/or suggestions on what I might want to do in order to get my car running cleaner. So please, post away!

My modifications are listed in my signature. No, I've never had a tune done and unfortunately I'm not willing to spend the money on a tuner and dyno time in order to get one.

It's either running rich, cruising, or the high flow cats just arn't doing the job. You need to monitor your fuel trims while driving. If they're good I'd be throwing on the factory mid pipe. If not, your maf sensor could be slewed due to oil from your k&n filter. The o2 frt o2 sensors could be slewed as well if they've got a lot of miles on them. You are running the stock tune I hope. I;ve seen brand new high flow cats, throw cat efficiency codes. They're not nearly as good as the factory cats. If the exhaust flows to quickly through the cats, the catalyst hasn't the time to burn off the hc and cut the co.

I agree with MAX
Sounds like those cats are not doing to job.
Make sure the next time you etest your car that you run 87 Octane people seem to think higher the octane the better this is FALSE!
You go have a SPOUT connector that you can un-plug witch will decrease your timing and take that incredible high NO PPM (NOX) down. NO PPM is due to HEAT!
You could also put a 180* Thermostat in, the factory 190* will also increase your NO PPM "HEAT"
You also need to pull your MAF out and spray the outa it with a good brake clean like "Red Stallion" or just an electric spray...K&N's are junk if your running a MAF as mention above the oily residue will stick to your MAF and it will read in-correctly, this would explain your HIGH HC PPM and your CO% excessively rich.....
MAF could be dirty and telling the EEC to dump in more fuel cause it thinks it getting more air!?!

Other possibilities are your O2's, Air filter, Oil change, PCV, ect....

Good luck and let us know what you did to get it to pass.

Worst case scenario push comes to shove theres people that knows your friends, sisters, boyfriend, that knows this guys, who says his friend is married to this girl and her brother works at a etest facility that always has cars that pass no matter what case it is!!! lol
