Fuel Pump Going?

I took my rear seats out today so I can shampoo them and put them back in as they are filthy from probably never being cleaned in 11 years... Well anyway, I went out for a long drive tonight, about 110kms around Windsor and when I left I'm pretty sure I couldn't hear my fuel pump at all. When I was on my way home I could hear a whining sound coming from the back of the car. I'm certain this is the fuel pump as I've heard something like it before on my friend's 300ZX. Does the stock fuel pump have an audible whine or should you not even be able to hear it?

Hey Flynnt the fuel pump went on my 99gt and when it went there was no whine. The new one made a whine noise before start up. I mean when the ignition was in the on position. Hope this helps. Oh there was a good turn-out last thursday. With the Flowmasters I could not tell if the whine was constant while I was driving

I've always heard the normal startup whine but this one is constant when I'm driving.

I didn't get out until around 9 PM, I actually saw a red 05 leave and followed it till Gladstone, that was you right? I was stalking it! Car looks awesome.

Some pumps are noisey from day one so no a whine is not a good indicater. It may however be telling you that your fuel filter is partially plugged.

my fuel pump went last year....it had no power up top, and would occasional cut out making the car stutter....that's what you shoudl be looking for. i replaced it with a brand new factory replacement pump (shoulda went with a good aftermarket one...oh well). anyway this new one whines like a great big aftermarket external fuel pump. with no sound deadener or backseats in my car it is very audible....

My car was sputtering really bad on startup about a week before, could have been related. Hasn't done it since though so not sure. I have an aftermarket one that's been sitting on my desk for almost a year.. just need to get my brother to give me a hand with putting it in once this one goes.

I installed a new Walbro 255lph fuel pump and put a new fuel filter in. No more problem and atleast I know this one is supposed to make noise.
