Raxiom Fog Light Review for 2010-2012 Mustang V6
My wife bought me the Raxiom Factory Style Fog Light kit from American Muscle for Christmas and I can’t say enough on what a nice addition they are to my 2012 V6. I’ve got the performance package and fog lights were not available as an option with that configuration and to me, Fog Lights are a must have especially when driving at night in Eastern Canada where we have to always be on the lookout for deer and moose. I didn’t want to buy normal aftermarket systems as I didn’t want to drill holes in such a beautiful car, or deal with the usual nightmares of “Seamless Installation” that are usually promised with such items. Also I am wary of the electrical issues that come with stuff sold to work with all vehicles so without the Raxiom kit I would never buy fog lights but thank the stars for these babies.
As soon as I opened the package I knew I was going to be satisfied. All the parts were stamped with Ford insignia and part numbers so I was confident that everything would fit perfectly and I was not wrong. After verifying that everything was there, I began reading the straightforward instructions so there were no surprises when I started the job. The instructions “suggest” raising the car on a lift or using ramps but I can tell you that using ramps at the very least is a must as trying to do the job with the car on the ground would be miserable if not impossible so beware. The first part of the installation involves removing the factory inserts in the lower bumper. Follow these instructions carefully as you don’t want to gouge the plastic in the bumper with a screwdriver taking these out. Both inserts were removed with surprising ease with gentle effort and expose the factory mounts. Next you have to get down and remove the lower engine cover that’s mounted to the bumper and it will come off easily. This exposes the fog light mounts and the fixtures go in as advertised. The only thing is to make sure you have a small wrench on hand or a stubby screwdriver because when you go to install the passenger side fixture, the windshield washer fluid reservoir is in the way and makes installing the upper left screw difficult which won’t be a big deal if you’re prepared.
Now it’s time for running the supplied wiring harness, which installs so easily, I was laughing to myself. There is more than enough length of the wiring so there should be no issues there. All of the connectors attach to the factory ones with no issues. I routed the wiring harness as described in the instructions and got to the firewall where you have to cut a cross in a plug located near the brake master cylinder to push the wires through. Also I should mention here that while not recommended in the instructions, I used some automotive silicon sealer around the plug to prevent any water from coming into the car through the firewall. Installing the switch involved some concentration because I didn’t want to gouge any part of the dash when removing the mounting plate. The job of installing the new switch was the hardest(but not difficult by any means) part of the whole installation as you have to install two connector clips (supplied) onto the wires leading into the switch connector. The problem for me was that I was doing this install in the garage at work and they use the yellow type of halogen lights and this caused more than a few of the wires to appear the same colour so I had to double and triple check to make sure I had the right wires. After this everything was plugged into the new switch and put back together as smooth as glass. The supplied cable ties are only four inches and are not long enough for some of the places you are supposed to secure the harness to so I just put two of them together. Once the switch was all hooked up I checked the operation before I put everything back together and all was well, so after aiming the lights (there is a toothed adjuster wheel on each fixture for vertical adjustment) to where I wanted them, everything went back together easily and with no surprises.
The total installation time took me between 1.5 – 2 hours and I only have a small amount of mechanical ability so this should be very easy for anyone to install. The bottom line is that these lights work exactly as described. They are expensive when you think that they are just fog lights but sometimes it really is true that you get what you pay for and this time it’s in a good way. The setup also gives the owner the benefit of being able to have automatic headlights. The kit uses the daylight sensor that is already located on your dash but is not enabled with the base headlight switch which to me is a great advantage as if you use the auto feature you’ll never forget to turn on your lights. Also this kit will not interfere with the normal operation of your daytime running lights. Another benefit is that with this kit, the fog lights will remain on when the high beams are on to give you maximum illumination when driving at night. Just remember to be more alert to dim your high beams as you don’t want to overwhelm oncoming traffic with too much brightness.
Overall, in my opinion, these are a great addition to an already fantastic ride and only enhance the driving experience. The installation is seamless and adds a better look to the 2010-2012 Mustang V6. These lights only come with the Pony Package from those years and I’m really glad that the wife got them for me. The last thing to remember is it’s not advisable to try and install these with the car on the ground and to use either ramps or a lift for the install. These offer an excellent improvement in lighting and appearance and hopefully they’ll last for years to come. A well recommended product.

I thought it was different too but I was thinking that maybe Raxiom was the sub contractor that manufactured the OEM fog lights for Ford and they had some kind of agreement with Ford to keep on selling them as stand alone kits. Either that or they assemble the kits using Ford parts at cost and resell them to us at a discount (the original option retailed for $800.00 in Canada). The important thing is that they look great, work great and fit perfectly.
