Hi everyone,

I'm a new member from Barrie, Ontario.

I have a 1997 Ford Mustang - bought her brand new when I was still in high school. This was my first car and I refuse to sell her. She started out as a V6 3.8L and is now a v8 5.0L. Mods include a chrome cobra intake manifold, Vortech Supercharger, NOS and 3.77 gears - among countless others. Exterior Mods include a full Saleen Kit (just cause I love the look), Saleen SR Spoiler, rims, and suspension ...

Well, thanks for having me as part of the CMOC Club! I hope to see you guys at some CMOC events soon.

Alex

Thanks.
Do you have more pics of your stang.
Looks like you've done an excellent job on the swap.

Hey thanks,

For sure I have more pics of my Mustang. I'll post them as soon as I get my laptop back (daughter poured grape juice on it).

I actually lucked out quit a bit with the swap. I knew it was possible to do the swap but everybody told me it was too hard or it would never run properly - stuff like that. Well, in August of 1998, I went to Mosport to watch Saleen race in the American Lemans series. I met a Saleen engineer there named Chris Workman, who told me the complete opposite - and even gave me a pretty complete list of parts Saleen uses in the convert of V6 Mustangs to Saleen S351's - complete with Saleen part numbers and prices (of course). Well, Chris proved to be extremely helpful in the conversion of my Mustang - providing expert advice and even finding me Saleen NOS parts no longer carried by the company. My second saving grace was and still is Late Model Restoration Supply - I was able to buy everything I needed brand new - from my engine to wiring harness to ECM. It was great.

I took A TON of pictures of my Mustang as it was going through the conversion and I was planning on posting a threat on exactly what it takes to do the swap - complete with photos and Ford part numbers.

I will say this - It is MUCH cheaper to just slap a supercharger on your V6 or just buy a V8 than to do the swap - but if your car has any sentimental value or your looking for the power of a 351 or you just want a 5.0L in a car your planning on keeping a very long time the swap is the way to go - and with the 5.0L engine I now have I can take advantage of the TONS of bolt on goodies made for V8 engines - specifically 302's.

Sorry 1LOW03GT - ended up typing a bit of a novel. Short answer: I'll post pics soon!

Alex

That's okey,tell the storiy.Love build stories!!
That is awesome you had help from the dude from Saleen.Nothing like having guys that do it for a living helping you,or anyone help.
I have often thought of doing a 5.0L conversion in my '03 GT.They are cheap, plentyful, great aftermarket support, and so much easier to work with.
Then i stop myself from that thought as the 4.6 is a nice engine as a package itself, and i've had good luck with it so far.LOL

You got yourself a sweet ride.
And your right,if your attached to it,and it owes you nothing, why rid of it,when you can build it!
