Exclamation Weird noise coming from passenger side, under the glove box

Hi Guys, I just recently bought a 2002 Mustang GT And i have already found a weird noise. There are multiple thumps within about 2 second that take place about every 5 minutes. It only happens when i have the air or heat blowing. Its coming from the passengers side down low behind and below the glove box. The weird thing is it happens even when i'm sitting at a red light. I think it may have something to do with the heater core and i just dont know what it is. Im hoping someone may know. Please help me and my new Mustang. Thanks.

Welcome aboard. Not to sure what it could be without hearing the sound, but maybe it could be the blower motor.

The blend door actuator motor has plastic gears that sometimes fail. Depending on the situation, the failed gear can result in a grinding sound or the blend door can thump as it pops over the broken tooth. Below is a picture of the problem from an S197. Note the broken tooth at the 1 o'clock position on the large white gear.

On an S197 this actuator is up behind the glove box and up against the trans tunnel. Likely similar location on your '02.

Okay Thanks. I'll take it apart and see if that's what the problem is.

Lots of us for sure, it's a good crowd here for the most part, but you're bound to find the odd fly through the screen door every once and a while.
