Engine Cuts Out For Split Second
OK I hope someone can help me here, and maybe I don't even really have a problem, but here's whats up.
So yesterday I'm out cruising around, and just couldn't hold back from giving it a good run. The first couple of times out this year, were just to take her to the car wash, and the shop for an oil change, but this time was different. I thought it was time to go through the gears, and experience the feeling I had been missing all winter. Sooo I took off from the lights slowly, and then as the tach was at about 3500 I put my foot to the floor, and yeah the feeling was back, BUT......as I shifted into 2nd it continued to pick up speed, but at around 4500, the engine cut out for a split second.
It really scared the out of me, thinking I must have done some damage, but figured the only way to know if something was wrong, was to try it again. I went through the gears, from a dead stop, right up to 160km/h, atleast 5 or 6 times more, and it didn't cut out at all, in fact it ran awesome.
Am I worrying over nothing, or is something up? Could it be the last bit of last years gas still mixing with the new gas I just put in? Maybe the fuel filter? Maybe something major

I just drove a 99 that did the exact same thing....although it was auto. Started nice and easy up to about 80km...then I put the pedal to the floor, felt the trans shift then it cut out...all the lights (engine, theft, etc) came on so I let off and slowed down. Figured the same as you and tried again a few times at the same point....the thing just threw me back in the seat and we were gone. I am thinking the old gas thing....

Rotor and cap have not been changed for at least a couple of years, but I am thinking of replacing/upgrading them. Just wondering about that TFI, does anybody like MSD or Mallory make replacement modules, and are they any better as far reliability and durability?

Man, i had HUGE issues with this exact problem after Nick put my car back together.
One shop thought it was an intake leak, or the ECU.
I had the top pulled off and went Big Stuff 3, now the car is mint. But damn, it was embarrassing every time it would cut out when I got on it.
Note, I also did change the distributor & msd box.

Yeah it kind of pisses me off, but I've been driving the last couple days quite a bit, and it hasn't done it since. Just the one time??? I'm going to change whatever could possibly be connected to this problem, cause if some "rice-mobile" pulls up beside me at a light, trying to be a smart ***, and this happens, I'm gonna be really pissed.
