Need Help on how to install a Steeda Short shift

Hey can anyone give a step by step on how to change out a stock shifter in an 02 GT for a Steeda short shift? Thanks

Here is a link for you to look at. It is how to install a Pro 5 shifter and it could be entitled how to install a steeda tri ax as they are all the same as far as installation. Good luck and it really is pretty easy once you get the stock shifter off from the silicon that Ford uses.

That link to the write up is pretty good but I will warn you......from experience.
Once you remove the 4 bolts holding the stock shifter down it may come off the housing very easy but chances are that it will be on there like a mf'er.

I had to pull and pull on my shifter handle and then when it finally broke loose I sliced my hand open pretty good on the sharp plastic edges that are exposed when you take out the shifter bezel.

I would recommend wearing a mechanics glove or put a bit of duct tape or something over the sharp edges to prevent that from happening to you.

Another thing....I used a Cobra Bob shifter gasket (I did not want to use RTV) and I experienced all kinds of noise under load while in fifth.
I even took out the shifter ( I used a Roush sts) and reinstalled it but the noise was still there.

After a while I took out the shifter and used RTV this time and no noise....as quiet as the stocker.

Anyway, good luck on the install....you should be happy with the Steeda.

"I have taken the shifter off lots and the best way I found was to get a small pry bar and a block of wood. Rest the block against the seat and pry the shifter off, Once it begins to loosen attach the handle and than pull it off.

Sorry to hear about your cuts and scrapes as there are a lot of sharpe edges in that area.

Note: Ensure that you transfer the clear plastic thingy that is attached to the stock shifter over to the new shifter. It snaps on the bottom. If it is not on the old shifter look in the cup in the tranny where the shifter sets into. Once you get the shifter off you will see that it is so easy to replace the new one.

Umm, this is the Classic Mustang Thread. That would be, 1964 1/2 to 1973. Some may even include the (cough) 1974 to 1978 but certainly not a 02.

Mike.
