New guy here, Tranny swap

I agree a stick is no fun in stop and go traffic but you gain horsepower with a 5spd. because of less parasidic loss. Automatics are for caddys and minivans, not mustangs.
I love my manuals, there is so substitute for me.

auto is more relaxing , for when you come from work dead tired, who want 1,2,3,4 then back 3,2,1 , etc . 5pd is fun in the summer ,on those long stretches of hwys where you can rip through the gears till traffic . converting to auto is possible , lot of part changes,
a flexplate on the engine side , get rid of clutch pedal . shifter, tranny, torqueconverter,
can buy used from wreckers , may need wiring harness, not sure, will need kickdown cable
may also need computer for tranny , but anythig is possible , nothing is impossible.

I can bench a manny into place, not an auto. HEAVY.
Sticks can be a blast. Plus, better mileage, when things go wrong on a stick it is usually a clutch ($100) versus auto (1500 for a proper rebuild).
There is really no easier car to learn on than a 5l stang. Let go of the clutch, car is moving. Simple. Imports need lots-o-throttle to go. I would say...........stay. Don't change thing. If he's really a buddy, get him to teach you. (BTW I taught my brother at 8 yrs old by leaving his a$$ in a field in a standard, and driving away. HE learnt. Nuff said. It is easy. Get on a back road, and practice shifting up and down. You don't need to break the speed barrier to make fifth on a 5L. 30 mph is plenty. Up and DOWN! Not up and hold the clutch until the brakes stop you. Gears save breaks. Another savings on a standard.
This is easy for me to say, I learnt how to drive stick 22 years ago, when I was five. Learnt to drive a Semi 18 speed at 12. So shifting is in my blood. Rush hour sucks, but if you dwell on shifting, vs the all the idiots that can't turn on an arrow- sorry ranting for a second there. I love shifting, makes for something to do.
Just my 2 cents..................

Before I bought my new 90gt in April 91 I had never driven a stick. I took 1 hr driving a friends 90CRX SI to learn and off I went to pick up the new Mustang. If you can walk and chew gum you can drive a stick.

Going from stick to auto is fairly messed up IMO But I can understand the want to not have stick if you arent familiar with it.
You should be able to find someone to swap their auto trans for your stick if you decide to do it
Auto should come with less parts. You will need to change the pedal assembly and possibly the A9L computer.
