Big Brake Kit Upgrade

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone thought of doing a Brake Kit upgrade to their Mustangs? I have been researching a few companies like Brembo, Baer and Wilwood and I just wanted to know if anyone has done it and come across any interesting issues?

Only did the Cobra kit on my 93. Biggest issue, price of shipping on the new kit

Had a shop install it and so far so good. Now sure what the kits are worth for your car however. I did purchase all my gear from Summit Racing.

Don't the new Mustangs have the big brake kit from Brembo as an option from the factory? Captain Hindsight says you shoulda got one with that !!! No experience with it dude, but I'm sure they're out there.

Tirerack is selling Brembo in either the 4 piston model or the 6 Piston model for around $3500.00 and the shipping costs to Canada is around $90.00. But my biggest issue is I'm worried if they will fit inside my 18" KR rims?

My mustang was a dealer demo so I didn't have any choices or options for it.

Best bang for the buck brake upgrade for the S197 cars is the GT-500 Brembo stuff available as a kit from FRPP, or as individual pieces from the dealer. Gets you 14" front rotors with 4-piston Brembo calipers, which are more than enough for a V6 car. You will need at least 18" wheels to clear them, and only certain 18s fit ... obviously the GT-500 wheels, and Steeda has a few, as well as certain other aftermarket stuff with lots of spoke clearance.

We put these pieces on my friend's 07 GT which gets hammered at lots of track days with sticky tires, and the brakes stand up very well. Any more brake than that for your V6 is just bling overkill.

cheers

Should also mention with regard to wheel fitment over the GT-500 Brembo brakes ... the OEM V6 and GT 18" wheels DO NOT clear the 14" brakes. The only Ford wheels that clear are the various GT-500 wheels, and the 19" stuff on the 2010 and 2011 cars.

cheers
