Will they fit???

I am
thinking of replacing the 16 inch wheels...4 hole... on my 92 GT with some 17 inch Cobra R wheels. A lot of the sites selling these wheels seem to be pushing 9 inch wide wheels for the front and 10`s for the rear.
I am wondering how these wheels will fit and whether there will be any interference with the body work or underpinnings of the car.
I am assuming I can get a tire that will be similar in diameter to my present 225-55-16`s.
Anyone have experience with this setup or any advice in this regard???????

They will be tight, and it will depend on several things ... tire size that you choose, ride height of the vehicle being the main ones. Usually with 10" wheels on the rear and 275 or 285/40 tires you will end up having to roll the fender lips regardless, and possibly flip your quad shocks for clearance as well. On the front you may have to install some extra limiter washers in the steering rack to reduce the travel slightly, if you find the wheels are rubbing on the lower control arms at full lock.

With 9" and 10" my tire size suggestions would be 255/40 front and 275/40 rear.

cheers

Thats the kind of feedback I wanted. It looks like an 8 inch wheel is the most practical....maybe.
Being as I still have the 4 bolt setup, I really dont have a whole lot of choices in wheels. I like the R style wheel but I am forced to go to 17 inch I think as I havent been able to find a 16 incher.
If I had a choice, I would like a 16 inch wheel so I could just switch my almost new tires over. Would save cash for other things.

Or keep an eye out for a good used set of old school 16" wheels for sale, ROH, CSA, Momo, etc. There are 16" 4-lug Cobra R replicas made as well, check out American Muscle or Late Model Resto for those.

cheers
